Pompoota Road Closure - What You Need to Know

Background

The lower section of Pompoota Road has experienced flooding during heavy rain for many years. Council investigations confirmed that the underground stormwater pipes were aging and at risk of failure.

These works were scheduled as part of Council’s infrastructure renewal program, but a sudden pipe burst in late November 2025 which created an immediate safety risk. Emergency repairs are necessary to prevent further flooding, property damage, and road collapse.

Pompoota Road is currently closed between Reservoir Road and Modbury High School.

Community Impact

Council understands that these urgent works have caused disruption for residents and visitors, including those attending local events and travelling within the area. We know this has affected daily routines, access to homes, and community activities.

Your experiences matter to us. We want to hear your stories and understand the impact these works have had on you and to work with you to minimise impact as the project evolves.

  • If you have been impacted, please share your thoughts, experiences and feedback through our Community Forum. If you prefer to share your experiences privately, you can do so via our short survey. Your insights will help us identify where we need to make changes now and how we can improve our responses in the future.
  • If you have identified hazards as a result of the traffic and pedestrian diversions, please let us know via our map, so that we can review our current response.
  • If you know someone affected by the closure who needs more information, please share or complete our short survey so that we can keep them in the loop.
  • If you have questions that aren’t answered in the FAQs section, you can post them using the Questions Tool. Our team will respond promptly to keep you informed.

Next Steps

Council is committed to learning from this experience and improving how we manage urgent works in the future. Here’s what happens next:

  • Complete the repairs: Our priority is to finish the emergency works safely and as quickly as possible.
  • Community feedback: We invite residents to share their experiences and suggestions as the situation evolves.
  • Review and improve: Council will conduct an internal review of our emergency procedures and processes.
  • Report back: Once the review is complete, we will share the outcomes with the community, including the steps we’re taking to improve and how your feedback directly informed any changes.
