All development sites that have confirmed start dates of more than 6 months will be converted to off leash areas for the residents and dogs of City of Point Russell. These sites will fall under a new category called "Shared Spaces". Site owners and building companies will be required to submit wait times they are anticipating to start construction to the City of Point Russell. The city will then assess if the property will be classified as a "shared space" in the holding period and advertise it on our Shared Spaces page.
To make shared spaces safe for dogs, the building company contracted for future construction will be required to build a fence securing the space. In addition, they will be responsible for the upkeep of this fence to ensure dogs can play safely without the risk of running on to the street.
Golf courses to become shared spaces
Public golf courses will also fall in the category of "shared spaces" during certain times of the day. During these times, golfers will need to share public golf courses with dog owners and their canine companions. Starting July 12th, golf courses will be classified as shares spaces during the following times:
6am-9am, everyday from January-December
4pm-7pm, everyday from January-December
