Glass recycling initiative: clear choices for a cleaner community

The City of Point Russell is excited to announce a new Glass Recycling Initiative designed to make our community greener and more sustainable. Starting 1st January 2025, this initiative aims to improve the way we handle glass waste and maximize the benefits of recycling.

What’s changing?

  1. Enhanced Glass Recycling Bins: We’re introducing specially marked bins for glass recycling at convenient locations throughout the community, including parks, community centers, and residential areas. These bins are clearly labeled and designed to ensure that glass is easily sorted from other types of waste.

  2. Comprehensive Glass Recycling Collection: In addition to the new bins, we’re expanding curbside glass collection. Every [specific day of the week], residents can place their glass recyclables in blue-lidded bins, which will be picked up alongside your regular waste and recycling collection. Please rinse out containers to ensure they are free of food residue before placing them in the bin.

  3. Educational Campaign: To help everyone get involved, we’re launching an educational campaign that includes workshops, flyers, and online resources. Our goal is to provide clear information on what can and cannot be recycled, and how proper sorting contributes to a cleaner environment.

Why recycle glass?

Recycling glass helps conserve natural resources, reduces energy consumption, and cuts down on landfill waste. Glass can be recycled indefinitely without losing quality or purity, making it one of the most sustainable materials.
